Sources and methodology
Where the facts come from
I use primary sources first and say which source each article relies on. The main ones:
- Migration Department of the Republic of Cyprus: criteria for granting an Immigration Permit to third-country nationals who invest in Cyprus, 4th revision, in force since 2 May 2023, with the official clarifications published on the same page. Issued under Regulation 6(2) of the Aliens and Immigration Regulations.
- Ministry of Interior, Civil Registry: acquisition of Cypriot citizenship by naturalisation, form M127, under the Civil Registry (Amendment) Law of 2023.
- Tax Department of the Republic of Cyprus: tax residency and domicile, including the 183-day and 60-day rules.
- Practice notes, budgets, timelines and rule changes published by BRIDGES on its pages about Cyprus permanent residence, its Cyprus permanent residence guide and the Greece Golden Visa. When I rely on BRIDGES data, I say so.
Sources by article
- The complete guide: Migration Department criteria (sections 1 to 10 and the clarifications); BRIDGES programme page; Ministry of Interior page on naturalisation.
- Costs and property rules: Migration Department criteria (sections 2.1, 4.1 and 7); BRIDGES budget breakdown on its programme page and its article on the full costs.
- Application process and documents: Migration Department criteria (sections 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 and the clarifications); BRIDGES programme page and its document guide.
- Family members: Migration Department criteria (sections 2.2, 5 and 6 and the clarification on parental consent); BRIDGES programme page and its article on family members.
- Cyprus or Greece: Migration Department criteria; BRIDGES pages on Cyprus permanent residence, the Greece Golden Visa and its comparison of the two.
- Keeping the status, taxes and citizenship: Migration Department criteria (section 10, the clarifications, duration and loss of the permit); Tax Department page on tax residency and domicile; Ministry of Interior page on naturalisation; BRIDGES articles on keeping the status and on the path to citizenship.
How I check and date information
- Each article shows an "Updated" date. It changes only when the facts are reviewed, not for cosmetic edits.
- Rules are quoted as they stand in the official criteria on the date of review. Where a figure comes from practice rather than from an official text, such as a typical budget or timeline, I say whose figure it is.
- Where a BRIDGES article and the official criteria differ, I follow the official text. I do not publish client stories, approval rates or statistics I cannot verify, and I leave out fees and numbers that I could not confirm.
How often the guides are updated
All articles are reviewed at least once a quarter, and immediately after the Migration Department publishes new criteria. BRIDGES reported in September 2026 that the Deputy Ministry of Migration plans to tighten the programme; when new rules appear, these guides will be revised.
